At the age of 9, Paulette's Mother went grocery shopping and came home with an entire family. She had run into a family in desperate need and over time was able to help them get back on their feet. Fast forward 30 years and Paulette has filled her house, her parents house and the homes of several friends with battered women who are going through a resurgence. These women are now learning to defend themselves, build up their physical and mental strength and learn to be independent in a safe environment. A typical scenario of a rescue is Paulette gets a phone call in middle of the night from a desperate woman who has just been beaten to her breaking point. Paulette calls one or more members of her team who are all volunteers, and they proceed to the location of the woman. These neighborhoods are often the ones that no one goes into at night. Because of the work Paulette has done, she often has the support of local gangs and when asked, they will provide additional security or at least make it known that she has a pass. There is no telling what they will encounter at the scene, but they will not leave the victim behind.
