HUMAN TRAFFICKING: RIGHT BEHIND YOU

At Urban Success, our Street Outreach and Crisis Intervention Teams feel a sense of urgency to tell you about the dangers of human trafficking going on in your backyards right now and what to do about it.

As we've told you, Ohio, where we are based, is 4th in the nation for human trafficking which includes commercial sex, forced domestic service and organ harvesting. Absolutely EVERYONE is at risk - EVERYONE needs to be alert to what is going on and how to stay safe until we put an end to trafficking.

Just last month, our team was able to rescue a man who was lured from Covington KY with the promise of work. He quickly realized he was going to be killed for his organs once they arrived in Chicago. He reached out on Facebook and one of our clients immediately contacted us. We were able to track his whereabouts and send one of our teams in the area to assist law enforcement in his rescue.

Our passion is for children being trafficked by and among family members or sold to drug dealers so we use our extensive network of street connections to identify children and families at risk but you need to understand the seriousness and danger of what is occurring in every city across the country right now.

We were recently informed that more than 30 women have disappeared from Florence KY in the past month. It appears several women approach unsuspecting young girls inviting them to attend a bible study group for the God of Mother Church. They talk for a while, invite you to the church or meet for coffee but require you come ALONE. From what we understand, after that, women are swept out of the country or to another state, making it extremely difficult to find and rescue.

SAFETY TIPS:

If you suspect you are being followed or profiled for trafficking, or are approached by someone that makes you uncomfortable, call 911 and stay in a public place around other people. Try to take a photo of that person, get a detailed physical description, their "name", accents, contact info, vehicle description and plates etc. As much information as you can collect will help law enforcement and Urban Success.

Install the app Life360 on everyone in your family's phone. It is so much easier to locate someone using this app than if we have to ask a judge to sign a warrant to ping a cell phone tower. Literally hours of life saving time will be spared. Also use the find my iPhone feature as well.

DO NOT EVER give out your personal information like where you live, work, attend church or go to school, (they will ask). Do not let them see you get in your car or which direction you go.  Do not walk to their car with them to get a pamphlet or any materials.

*Do not let them distract you from your children - they work in teams many times and one person will distract you while the other snatches your child out of the car seat or cart.

URBAN SUCCESS HAS A 100% SUCCESS RATE OF RESCUING VICTIMS. We then immediately implement our support services which last indefinitely.

RESOURCES:

The Salvation Army is extremely active in the fight against human trafficking and offer lots of training and resources as well as The Polaris Project. Each state has a Human Trafficking Task Force through the Attorney General's Office, you can also contact your local Sheriff's office and the FBI to make reports.

As always, feel free to reach out to us here at Urban Success for more information or assistance 513-800-1933

2018 FUNDRAISERS! LET'S WORK TOGETHER TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

2017 proved to us that it takes quite a few people and quite a bit of money to run a 24/7 Crisis Response Unit and provide the depth and quality of after care and support that we do long term.

SUICIDE AWARENESS AND PREVENTION EVENT

Urban Success was devastated in early 2017 by the sudden and tragic loss of a young couple who committed suicide just days apart. Our community has lost two young people with very bright futures, who were clearly struggling with things they didn't share with anyone. They didn't reach out for help with their temporary problems - they took a permanent route out of their troubles and pain.

Several days later, our Crisis Response Team was asked to assist with two separate women threatening suicide and we were able to successfully diffuse those situations with the help of family and professionals, however, it was during these calls, that we realized we are not equipped or trained to handle suicide. This is partially why we want to host this event and spread awareness.

Many people young and old from all walks of life face uncertainty with their life's direction and  challenging circumstances. Statistics show Veterans are at an extremely high risk of committing suicide as well and we have a heart to reach out to them and be a support system during times of hardship. We want to let people know in times of pain and confusion, they have options and taking their own life should never be one of them.

We are looking for volunteers, donations and sponsors to host our first annual Suicide Awareness and Prevention Event in Cincinnati Ohio. If you have time to help us; items to donate for raffle prizes; able to contribute financially or want to help in some way - we want your help!

If you or your company would be willing to sponsor this event and be mentioned in our promotions, we would love to hear from you!

Please contact Malinda at 513-628-3827 with questions or if you could help us in any way. Let's be a shining light for those in the dark shadows of suicide and a healing hand to those left behind.

RESCUE SOAPS

One way Urban Success tries to reach girls being trafficked in our local motels is by leaving soaps with our contact info on them in various rooms we believe are being used by traffickers.

We have two amazing ladies who make our soaps and give them to us at an extremely discounted price. We are THRILLED to have the opportunity to purchase these soaps but the volume we need is becoming costly. If you would like to sponsor a batch of soaps (10 for $20, 20 for $40 etc), please get in contact with us, we would appreciate your support!

You can always make a tax deductible contribution via our TAKE ACTION link to our Go Fund Me page, contact us through email cincymentor@hotmail.com or text 513-508-1171.

Urban Success Shelter News!

2016 was an AMAZING year for us here at Urban Success! We doubled our board membership! We brought on lots of new faces, passionate and eager to serve! We helped dozens of new individuals and families! We distributed Christmas gifts to some of our participants, courtesy of the Merry and Bright Campaign at River Hills Church! We introduced a dozen people to the Vineyard Community Church’s Healing Center for FREE food, clothes, employment services, even volunteer mechanics!

We are actively collecting needed materials for our Stones to Rubies homeless program, as well as our Domestic Violence and Human Traffickingprograms!

Our Urban Success Security and Crisis Response Team rescued more women in 2016 than we have in any other single year and have been struggling to hide them in safe places due to overcrowding at shelters so…. we bought our own!  BUT – WE NEED YOUR HELP TO GET THIS SHELTER OPENED!

This house needs a lot of work to be move in ready and will accommodate 8-10 women and their children when complete.  We need the following materials:

  • Carpet and pad for 3 levels
  • Insulation
  • Drywall for 2 levels
  • Paint of any color
  • Used appliances for the kitchen
  • Used kitchen cabinets and counter tops
  • 2 toilets
  • 2 vanities
  • Used washer and dryer
  • Used furniture for the common area/living room
  • Used dining table and chairs
  • Lighting
  • Bed frames and mattresses in good condition and preferably in plastic
  • Interior doorsand knobs (8)
  • Exterior doors (2)
  • New roof (current roof is very old and leaking, causing the ceilings to fall in)

If you are handy around the house, have leftover materials from your home renovation project, a used appliance or furniture you no longer need, or wish to contribute in some way in order for us to get this project completed quickly,  we will gladly accept your help! Please reach out to us at 513-508-1171 or cincymentor@hotmail.com

We want to serve more people and families in 2017 than we ever have and provide more services throughout the city, but most importantly – acquire more properties for the homeless; survivors of human trafficking and survivors of domestic violence.

Stay tuned for updates on exciting new programs, fundraisers for the whole community and ways you can get involved and make a difference!
